Biography
Born in Orlando, Florida, Zachary Johnson began classical
guitar lessons at the age of twelve. He gave his first solo
performance at the age of fourteen, and has since performed
throughout Florida and Connecticut, at such venues as the Brevard
Community College, Dowling Park Community, the Milford Fine
Arts Council concert hall for the New England Guitar Society, and
Sprague Hall at Yale University.
As a scholarship student of Dr. Stephen Robinson, Zachary
received his Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance from Stetson
University in May of 2004, graduating Cum Laude. He received a
full scholarship to the Yale University School of Music, where he
received his Masters of Music in Guitar Performance in May of
2006. He is now pursuing his Doctorate of Music at Florida State
University with the renowned pedagogue, Bruce Holzman, where
he is also a teachers assistant for Prof. Holzman. Zachary is also
currently the classical guitar teacher at the Thomasville Road
Academy of the Arts in Tallahassee.
He has also performed and studied in the master classes of
many esteemed guitarists such as Denis Azabagic, Roland Dyens,
Eduardo Fernandez, Eliot Fisk, Paul Galbraith, Oscar Ghiglia,
Nicholas Goluses, Antigoni Goni, Adam Holzman, Bruce Holzman,
Dale Kavanagh, William Kanengiser, David Leisner, Elena
Papandreu, Judiceäl Perroy, Ben Verdery, Jason Vieaux, Thomas
Vilateaux, and John Williams.
Zachary Johnson is the recipient of numerous scholarships
including the Florida Medallion, Olive T. Rosa Music Scholarship,
Sarasota Area Music Teachers Association Scholarship, the
Stetson Scholarship, Venice Area Music Teachers Association
Scholarship, Conway Dickson Scholarship, Yale Alumni
Scholarship, and the Yale Music Scholarship.
Aside from being a performing artist and music teacher, Mr.
Johnson is also a yoga teacher. He is currently working on a book
explaining the benefits of postures, meditation, breathing, and the
philosophy of yoga for musicians. He also loves baseball and is an
avid Red Sox fan.
